It Is Not About The Dresses,It’s About The Underskirt!

As the title said, the project is all abt the underskirt. Underskirt in this project was meant to maintain the dress shape

The first dress’ skirt has A line shape and the second dress’ skirt has upside down U or tulip shape. Thus, the underskirt is different. The different is in how dense the gathers for ruffle we make. There’s specific formula for me to do this except one thing: length of maximum fabric for gathers is 3 times the circumference of the skirt part on which we want to sew on the gathers or ruffle.

For example: waist 65cm. Prepare 3x65cm fabric for dense gathers. If ruffle will be on hip which is 90cm, prepare 3x90cm for dense gathers.

In my A line skirt, top ruffle is not as dense as lower ones. And in my tulip skirt, top to middle ruffles are pretty dense. Bottom ruffle is not too dense. Just may be 2 x circumference.

 

 

 

 

 

Frill Lace Appliques, A Thought

It’s been frilly lacey doll outfit since….forever? Haha. Some people make it beautifully yet a few others in my opinion just make it without a thought. Seems like the idea is giving lace and frill etc as many as possible and it would look good.

These are just some thoughts of mine:

1. Sometimes we dont have to use lots of frill and laces. Just use it sufficiently. Too many frill lace can bias the ‘theme’ of the outfit itself. It’s like the outfit is loosing itself. Unless, it’s themeless. haha.

2. Choose the lace as well as fabric for frill. Not all kind of clothes need the same  lace and frills and not all lace and  frills are suitable with the every design we make. Color, frill pattern or design, and size should enhance the whole design as well as the fabric of the clothes.

3. Don’t push it. If the frill and lace just ruins the whole look, just leave it.

4. Frill, laces, and applique can save ‘our sewing’ quality, yet, don’t depend on it. Sometimes, if our sewing is bad, it will look bad unless we put frill lace or appliqué  like a mummy bandage.

5. We can use some ‘unusual’ style of color of frill, lace, and applique but it will be better if we use colors that the pattern in the fabric has the same color. It needs a feeling to choose the color that looks good. Yet, sometimes, we just want to play with the colors and it may invite ‘critics’. I did that and I DON’T CARE. Some matched colors are so boring. So, try some color combination and pick the best (as well as adventurous) look. Present something new, offer a trend, rather than following common picks.

Off topic: My trends are sometimes duuuh or weird. My style is simple but sometimes, it’s not the ‘era’ to present that but I really don’t care. Really, years after that, people are starting to create that while I did that years ago. It’s a good thing if we can sew and have our own unique taste. It doesn’t have to be a heavy unique taste. Just know yourself, know your style, be comfortable with it.

Doll clothes are pretty when it comes with frill and lace (and applique) but if your style isn’t like that, don’t push it. Even so, sometimes, we want to decorate our ‘simple’ clothes. Do it but don’t go overboard. We don’t want to kill the design. Make sure that decoration will enhance our clothes not killing it. Sometimes, I saw some clothes with lots of frill and laces, and I just,”what are you trying to say with that clothes?” The story of the clothes has gone. UNLESS, you want to make that kind of clothes intentionally.

It’s just a thought from me about choosing and using frill,lace, and applique. It’s not for debated or argued. You may always choose whatever you like. I or your friends may not like it but it’s your choice in ‘frill and applique choosing’. If you’re comfortable with your picks, then go for it. My post here is just to give an idea as well as tips about using frill, lace, and applique on doll clothes and doll clothes itself.

Not all frilly and full of laces doll clothes are beautiful. Not all non frilly and laced  doll clothes are boring.

Pants: asleep eidolon pattern for all (?)

I made pants basic pattern for asleep eidolon body. I was so excited tbat it fit another body such as volks sd13 and be yours. But today, after making this pants for be yours using asleep eidolon pattern, i felt, i’d better make pattern for be yours body and other bodies. It looks good but i dont know. I feel like it’s better to create pattern for each body.

Trying new pants pattern

This is a minifee body.

Fabric is cotton. The cotton is a bit off standard. It’s slippery and thinner than usual.

If i want to make the crotch looks good, aside that pattern itself must be good, i must serge or sew near s seam edge.

Standard pants like this are easy to sew but the pattern is difficult. Pants pattern is difficult in terms of fitting. Use stretch denim or fabric to overcome this problem.

New Dress, Another new experience

I love this dress so much. So perfect with her character.

The top grey part is chiffon, lined with tulle. I think, i put myself in trouble by using tulle. O.o.

the bottom part or skirt is velvet. Hmmm…i am not sure whether velvet is good for doll size but in this dress matter, it’s fine.

The collar is the problem. I tried vertical cut for the collar. Long bias type of cut of fabric strap, gathered, and attached. The result is not too satisfying. Making round cut will be perfect. Next time i must try it.

i made bigger version for myself. Love this dress so much.

for bigger one i used same chiffon but the skirt i used kind of thin satin-like.

Spandex Bikini for BJD

I used spandex for my first bikini project for SD size doll. Spandex: slippery and stretchy. Pretty difficult to tame with my ordinary sewing machine.

Some notes I took while doing this:
1. use zigzag seam for some parts but it’s not demanded.

2. carefully choosing the stitch size.

3. feet pressure must be set carefully. Too loose may not make the fabric move. I chose in the middle.

4. some parts measurement can be reduced some mm-s because when we sew it, it would be stretched out by nature.

5. i can serge spandex. (^o^)d. So happy to know this. Will practice more again about spandex serge …

It was funny that horizontal band on the bra became looks like a real bra. I was making it horizontal, ‘flat’ on the front but it became like that when I wear the bra on my doll. O.o”’.

I might reveal the inside peeking of this project in password protected form post. I don’t know some people who used to attack my work read and take advantage from it.

Ultra Cute Clothes Set

There are lots of things i learned from this project. Starting from revising old basic pattern up to serging. The result isn’t too satisfying yet it’s ok for me as i am not selling it.

I will write sewing notes abt it when i have more time. Been so hectic lately.

 

My First (Done) Doll Bra

This is my first doll bra. Not my very first but it’s my first ‘done’ confidently doll bra. Haha.

I didn’t sew the string because my target were the cup and whole fitting. When it’s ok, The string can be sewn later. So far, this is great and I’m satisfied with the result. Yet, I’m still thinking about more options for finishing technique.

The right pic is showing how I sew the ‘inside’. There’s nothing special about it. I just sew and then serge the side. So far, for this kind of pattern and ‘size’, this technique is the easiest. If i serged it neater, it might be better but it’s already good in my opinion. Haha. Anyway, that yellow thread. Haha, I was just lazy to change it into white one. I didnt’ mean this bra is the ‘last’ fixed one. It’s my second attempt, yet, done well, of doll bra making.
