Pattern Is OK But Why Is It Too Fit?

I made a doll pants pattern. I was confused, why the pants I made was almost unfit for my doll. It was almost too small. Need a little bit pull and small cuts to make it  flexible on the waist.

I then ‘tested’ the pattern (Yes, I created real project first and then tested the pattern when I found the problem). It was OK!. I was totally confused. The only thing different was KIND OF FABRIC. The fabric i used for testing the pattern was cotton, regular cotton which the fiber woven wasn’t too strong and quite flexible. While the real project used imported fabric which is strong and not thin aaaand not flexible either.

I was also thinking about sewing procedure. It also created a problem if I sew it not in a proper order but I thought I had fixed the problem but the pants still didn’t fit well. When I sew the test one, I used different order/procedure. I didn’t have to fix things.

The pattern technique I used has it’s own formula for small, regular, big style of pants. I used small style pants formula but after the problem arose, I made regular pants pattern. I will tested the pattern tomorrow. I must use the exact same fabric or same kind of fabric to test the pattern. Goodness, and I used branded expensive rare fabric for small style real project (T.T)… I must re-create using another typical fabric I have which has length more than 50cm. TAT …

I’m so disappointed at myself. Been making doll clothes lately and none is good. TAT … Perhaps because I made them with a very stressful mind (not caused by the making process but because of other things… 🙁 )

Will write about my findings and conclusion later after making the pants… TAT …

Boy’s Uniform

I made boy clothes lately. School ‘free’ uniforms, and now, pants. It’s not easy to make them the right way. Of course, it looks ok but actually, there were small mistakes and ‘imperfection’. It’s quite tricky to sew this kind of ‘seamless’ pattern on the opener side. I also forgot that my teachers once taught me wasn’t correct. I forgot to correct that when cutting the fabric. Well, it’s wearable alright but definitely not ‘correctly’ sew.

I made pants too. Three pants then the last one is the best! Haha. Seems like the pattern I got from my teacher is kind of ‘regular’ shape of pants which is it is really difficult for me to change it into more fit style. May be i can change but it would take lots of trial. I don’t have time! After modifying the pants ONCE, i decided to use another pattern I got from my sewing bible. It is the best! Somehow the formula seems weird but really it works! Looks like the writer is really an expert and have lots lots lots experience. I have never seen something like this before. *I can’t reveal the formula. Please get your own book. The writer’s name is WANCIK. It’s not in english though. So may be, it can’t be used internationally 🙁 . I don’t even know if the publisher republishes it again. I haven’t seen it in a while in bookstore. May be some people spread it in internet. I  don’t do that. I don’t want to get in trouble with the law.*

My boys leg shape from waist to feet, they are thin. So bony TAT. It’s hard to make quite fit pants. The pants I made are still a bit lose on the leg but ok on the waist. I used stretch on the waist, too but if i didn’t use it, it was ok too. I used type of stretch band which has holes so we can control the length of stretch by slipping the button into one of the holes. It’s a very good idea about using this kind of stretch for kids pants as they will growl and the stretch quality usually depreciates along with time. Yet, for ‘neat’ and very formal pants, I won’t use this. Haha. Although, it won’t be seen from outside, I don’t feel it’s 100% neat. Must take a pic and show the stretch band/tape someday and put it here. It may be difficult to imagine what kind of stretch or what kind of rubber i’m talking about.

There is also a web i would like to promote. They sell downloadable patterns. I don’t use their pattern though as i can make it myself and love to do it, yet, for some people who don’t like making pattern and just want to sew, you might want to check out https://fitinline.com/product/pattern/ (this is not in english either but may be since it’s diagram, it’s more understandable)

Not So Simple Backpack

{CAPTION}

this was supposed to be quite simple backpack. But somehow, since i wanted to sew the zipper differently than i usually did, I didnt set up a step by step sewing procedure properly. I just sew as usual. Apparently, I sew in a wrong order so the result was not precise and the difficulty increased.

i also made a pattern mistake which i wanted to make side pockets flatter a bit but ended up with sewing difficulty due to thickness. 😰😰. I added a strap to make it thicker or fatter. So you can see there’s kind of ‘additional strap’ on the pockets. Yet, since it’s emergency correction, the precision of the stripe, the position of the pockets (the mark was quite disappeared and i was too lazy to do it again bcs the pieces were half assembled already when i fixed the pockets) and the sewing are not good. 😞. aaaaaand so does the zipper part. it wasnt precise too.
the lining inside should be modified too. separate pattern should be made. I didnt do it bcs i didnt think it would be necessary. I made the pattern very simple that actually it caused me difficulty in sewing. It was same to the lining. I should make separate different lining pattern but I used main fabric pattern
I want to write abt the zipper sewing later. I plan to make one more later. I hope i wont forget to take a picture. haha.
Also want to write abt lining pattern too. I dont plan to write a whole tutorial though. But if i have time, may be.

Few things to note (again) when making new project (though it looks like not new):

  1. set up a step-by-step sewing procedure.
  2. don’t just use main pattern as lining pattern.
  3. with that kind of pockets, it’s better to give more sewing allowance rather than 0.5cm or less. It’s even better to give at around 1.7-2cm.
  4. Better no interfacing used on pocket strap to be sewn on the main body. Interfacing will add thickness. Or even if it’s used, make it smaller than pattern, so the side to be sewn is still interfacing-less.

Struggling: Ordinary Sewing Life of A Mother

just to make this simple bag, i have to struggle. While listening to the screaming boys around (fighting between themselves or picking up fight with me etc. goodness), being disturbed by their activities around me, and being interrupted by other things, i do my best to make some bags for souvenir for some ppl i want to appreciate. There are another 1 finished and 1 WIP. I messed up bcs of lack of concentration but things ran well in the end.  Thank God. Will make more like this with different fabric pattern.

I wish to sell something like this but of course, i must take a longer time to make it more carefully so the quality will be better than this one. I am trying to meet the deadline for these bags. So, some parts that shouldnt be sew by machine, i did it. Perhaps, i also miss  0.5mm sometimes. Haha. Really, i’m a bit annoyed if i do that when making bags. 😂😂. So, to make a more precise and better bag, i am going to spend more time to make 1 bag. Mood takes big portion here actually. With all those interruption, i struggle actually to make one even without deadline.

Want To Create But … :(

So frustating…

Want to create things aka sewing things but it’s like no time or the situation doesn’t permit. Goodness, my kids.

Actually, doll clothes can be made by crocheting but I don’t know…I prefer sewing. I’m not too fond of crocheted clothes for doll. Perhaps, I take dolls like myself. I mean, I don’t like wearing crocheted clothes. It’s like too heavy and hot. Perhaps, unless in my country, there’s winter, I would like it.

So frustating for unable to do anything.

I wish my boys are going to school soon. I wish they ll get full day school. So tired.

Lieselotte and Cordelia

hahaha..

I just realize, Cordelia when AE make the 1/2 version, she has slight feel like lieselotte but in ‘mature’ look… No wonder, I like cordelia 1/4 version. I didn’t know it was 1/2 Cordelia until i translated the chinese language. Haha… I’m so consistent when liking doll…XD… Perhaps, I should buy body for my cordelia…goodness! i forgot to buy her a body and make-up!…i want the best for her but the artist i want to paint her has retired TAT

Reading a book

Bought a book but apparently this is really referrence book. Most pics are black and white and each pic has description. I use Scan&Translator apps for iphone to read this. You can use google translate, too, but i like the previous apps more.

Just open the apps and push the camera button. Let the apps scan the kanji and then we can choose to what language to translate.

Making Bag: A Restart

Been making bags lately. Now, the second one. Never been thinking too much like this before. Perhaps because I made doll clothes so i started to get more detail in terms of technique and accessories. I also like trying some supplies I rarely use when I want to make bags as quick as possible. I think, the preparation takes more than the sewing itself. It’s ok actually but preparation means more risk exposed to my kids intervention. Hahaha. Goodness. But so far, the craft projects are safe.

I make a plan that after these few re-start projects, I will also restart selling my bags again. It will be (slightly…or not) different than before. I want to try so many things I haven’t. Things mean supplies. Hahaha… Wish me luck!

My Own Product Review

I’ve been thinking about changing my handmade product. First when thinking of producing it. I was thinking about ‘casual cute product’. It was kind of product that people might need when they have their first doll and want to style their doll cutely with casual unique clothes.

Now…

I’m thinking another thing. I’m busy with kids and can’t always have time to sew a lot. I was thinking to make special clothes  each time. I was thinking about this when saw other seamstress’ handmade. They were beautiful, unique, and made with a good skill. I then thought, my skill isn’t basic. Why don’t I make that kind of product as well. I don’t have to make such a lot and don’t have to feel oblique to make a lot of clothes. When making casual clothes, i always feel oblique to make more and it frustrates me because I can’t due to busy with household. After seeing some seamstress’ unique works, I think. My skill isn’t basic, too. I can make something that my non-basic skill afford it. May be I can’t make a lot and only one or two per release and can’t work fast but well, I can’t make a lot and work fast when making casual clothes. Thought I can make unique casual clothes but casual is casual. It’s either I’ll be upgrading my casual clothes into a more unique clothes or make something else that is unique.

I’m still cooking the idea. I want to decide what kind of clothes I want to make, how many, what the concept of clothes (upgraded casual clothes or totally different style).

(Difficult) Washable Pen

I bought this pen from my seller friend. I thought, it was just like another washable pen I had. Apparently, it is NOT. I used the remover only once on this project and the stains were not disappeared. It was still there. Very hard to be removed. I then had a feeling that this will be very difficult to be removed even with another good stain remover or natural stain remover. Even i used the best detergent before remover to remove the stain. This detergent is one i’ve been using since may be i was in college.  It’s very-very good quality so far. I didn’t want to use another removers as I know it may degrade the color. I just want to use ONE technique at ONCE.  I then remember, a batik artist in my country used  regular spidol to draw the pattern. I asked, will the mark disappear? He said, yes, in the process, it will. He uploaded the picture of batik processing someday and I saw he used hot boiled water. I then used the technique. Instead, I boiled my project, I just poured the hot boiled water into a basin with regular detergent I always use. IT WORKED! Goodness!

It is better to use hot water once rather than using remover over and over. I had experience with using remover more than once on a project. It didn’t work and it ruins the color. Using the hot water, the color will yes, it will slightly degrade but I know my fabric is very good, high quality so  I was confident enough to use hot water. As long as not over and over again. Combining with good detergent really gives good impact to stain.

I want to take the picture of the pen that crafters must avoid but there’s no brand too as I only bought refill and I didn’t have the pen already TAT.

The pen tint is light blue. There’s no other tint color series from this ‘brand’. There are another pen from different brand (I think) with some colours series. That pen is ok. Only the pen with light blue (not marker. Light blue marker is ok).
